The painting (in progress) on the left is as tall as I am (squared), allowing the brushstrokes to be directly related to human scale.

The painting on the right is made on a door blank, thus measures 80" across and has (again) a direct relationship to a general human size.

Much of this water abstraction work has to do with two main things:
1. description of water instead of depiction; a conversation instead of camera-perfect
2. finding a path through which I can pass, either in a whitewater craft or visually
Empty space is left where detail is not needed, and mystery exists in reality.
