Teaching a friend this technique with standardized movable imagery (above),
and the results of my own demonstration work (below) made for my printmaking class this semester.
All the blocks were cut to a 3" standard. Most of them are 3" square, while some are 3" x 6" or 1.5" x 3". The goal is to mimic movable type so that a visual language can be created throughout the semester. It breaks the project into smaller pieces, allowing for less restrictived expression by each student, and also opening a discussion about the inherent communication in visual culture.
